I Peter 5:6

“Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time.”

To humble oneself is to be brought low but, in order to be brought low you must first see that there is someone higher than yourself.  If you don’t realize that there is someone higher than yourself you become god to yourself.  Humility is having a right view of God and self.

When we have a revelation of God we can’t help but bow down in his presence.  Job said¸”I have heard of thee by the hearing of the ear; but now mine eye seeth thee.  Wherefore I abhor myself, and repent in dust and ashes (Job 42:-6).  It was seeing God that caused Job to see himself and although Job had lost everything, after this revelation of God, God exalted him and restored to him all that he lost.

Seeing God causes us to relinquish all our efforts and surrender to His grace and power.  Paul on the Damascus road had a revelation of Jesus Christ and it caused him to fall to the earth and surrender to the will of God (Acts 9:1-6).  After this experience Paul was filled with the power of the Spirit and began to preach (Acts 9:17-20).  Humility releases the power of God.

Christ Himself knowing who He was the scripture says “who being in the form of God thought it not robbery to be equal with God; but made Himself of no reputation, and took upon Him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men; and being found in fashion as a man He humbled Himself, and became obedient unto death even the death of the cross.  Wherefore God also hath highly exalted Him, and given Him a name which is above every name” (Phil. 2:6-9).

Christ’s humility to the will of God released the power of God to raise Him up on the third day and highly exalt Him and give Him a name above all names.  When we receive a revelation of Jesus Christ it will cause us to bow down under the mighty hand of God, give up our efforts and allow His power to be released on our behalf.
