Exodus 3:2-3

“And the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush; and he looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed.  And Moses said, I will now turn aside, and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt.”

When Moses fled from Pharaoh the scripture says “And Moses was content to dwell with the man; and he gave Moses Zipporah his daughter” (Exd. 2:21).  The key is Moses was content to stay where he didn’t belong.  God wanted to give Moses more than what he had in the land of Midian but first He had to get Moses attention in order for him to leave Midian.

To get Moses attention God appeared to him in a miraculous way.  God didn’t make Moses sick to get his attention nor did He cause some financial crisis, He appeared to Moses in the midst of a burning bush. And remember Moses was in a place where God didn’t lead him.  Still, God didn’t cause some kind of tragedy to get Moses out of there.   No, God used the miraculous to get Moses attention and He uses the miraculous in our lives so that there’s no mistaking who He is.  It’s only the enemy that uses sickness, disease, and death to get our attention.  God doesn’t need to use such weak and pitiful things, after all He is God and He knows each of us by name and He can call us by name at any time.  Instead God does things in such a way that we can only say “that was nobody but God.”

It’s in the places where God’s abundant grace is poured out where God is waiting for you to turn aside and see Him.  He’s just that good!
