Give The Gift Of Love

Gift of love, give love, giving, helping the elderly, ideas for spending time with the elderly, seniors

The holidays are upon us, and for most of us it means spending time with family, friends, and love ones.  However, for some of our elderly it’s another day of loneliness.  Those that have lost their loved ones and are left alone without children, family or friends to visit, the holidays can be a time of pain instead of joy.

I want to encourage you to reach out to the elderly in your community this holiday season and give the gift of love.   No act of love is too small.  Whether it’s your neighbor next door or someone in a nursing home or hospital your presence will make the biggest difference this holiday.  Taking the time to read a book, bake Christmas goodies, take them shopping, play a game of scrabble or help them write cards to send to family and friends will be greatly appreciated.

Maybe the senior ministry in your church is giving a holiday celebration.  Invite the seniors in your community to attend and offer to bring them if they need a ride.  This will give them an opportunity to meet and interact with new people and build lasting relationships.   Jesus admonished us to care for the widows and orphans and all those who are unable to care for themselves.  Our elderly and seniors are included in this care.

When you give the gift of love through spending time with our seniors it causes them to feel valued, remembered and loved.  And you’ll be amazed at how what you give comes back to you.

The Works That I Do

Doing what Jesus did, great commission, greater works, Jesus, Working for Jesus

John 14:12
“Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.”

It never ceases to amaze me that the only prerequisite for doing what Jesus did is to believe on Him.  When we believe on Him the works that He did we can do.  So what are those works that He did? He healed the sick, He raised the dead,  He cast out devils, He opened blind eyes, and He caused the lame to walk.   All of this and more He said we can do when we believe on Him.

When you believe on Jesus you’re not just believing on one aspect of Him, when you believe on Jesus you believe on Jesus.  All that He is and all that He does.  St. John 1:14 says, “And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.”  I love this verse!  Jesus is full of grace and truth.  Jesus is full of grace to save, heal, deliver,  provide and protect.   Whether you believe it or not it’s who He is and what He does.  And since He is the Truth it is undisputable, and unchangeable.  All you need to do is receive it.

Jesus has given us His name to go and do the works that He did.  All of His grace and truth is in His name because He is His name and His name is who He is. St. John 14:14 “If ye shall ask any thing in my name I will do it.”And St. John 15:16, “Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain; that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, He may give it you.   Notice Jesus said  “I will do it” and then “He (the Father) may give it you.” In other words the Father gives and His Son does.  The Father has given us His Son to give us whatever we ask.  Jesus is the power of God (I Cor. 1:24).  Therefore when we use the name of Jesus it is as though we are saying, Father according to the power you used when you created the heavens and the earth and all there is therein I command the sick healed, blind eyes opened, I cast out devils and I receive everything I need.  Just think we’ve been chosen and ordained by Christ to not only bring forth fruit, but to receive from the Father whatsoever we ask.  All we need to do is believe on Jesus and ask.

Today, not only can you do the works that Jesus did but you can do even greater works. Go forth in His name and work!

Acts Of Love

Acts of love, do something, doing, feeding, giving, helping, helping the poor, Jesus gave, proverty

In St. John 6 we read the story of a little boy who gave up his lunch of five barley loaves and two fish to help feed a multitude of over five thousand.   We don’t know his name but he will be forever remember for his simple act of love.

I believe that the greatest thing we can do in life is give to others what God has given to us which is His love.  When we reach out to help those that are in need we are giving them the love of God.  Just think God’s love not only says I love you but God’s love supplies the need.  “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life” John 3:16.

Love needs to be expressed and helping someone else is an outlet for love to express itself.  And remember, no act of love is too small.  Each of us can do something.  The important thing is be available.  The opportunity to help someone will always present itself.  All you need to do is let the love flow.  Remember no act of love is too small. Like the little boy in St. John 6 when he gave what he had to Jesus, he saw Jesus bless it, brake it, and mulitplied it.  What he saw was a miracle.  My question to you today is in what ways are you expressing love?
